The Glass Box Extension

The Glass Box Extension was designed to build out from the kitchen and living room corner to create a platform from which to view the stunning panoramic view of Dunmanus Bay. We used palladium wrap around doors to open the walls up in floor to ceiling glass. In this gorgeous new front extension, i used one of Farrow & Ball’s 11 new colours – ‘wine dark.’ The theme i wanted to create with this new extension was ‘in to land, out to sea.’ There would be a green wall just inside the existing living room, painted in Farrow & Ball ‘Bancha’ which would feel like we stepping back onto land and then the glass box would be blue, representing stepping out metaphotically to the ocean. This effect has really created a feeling of embracing the ocean views and the strip of painted blue wall that runs along the top of the palladium doors, as you look out, allows your gaze to continue out to the beautiful blue sky and blue sea, without interuption. I used an extra large rug in my furnishings design, to place all the seated furniture upon it, leaving a pathway around the edge, where the owners can easily walk around the room and out the doors without obstruction. As my client often works at home, part of the brief was to incorporate a desk somewhere within the house and i thought, surely what better location than to place it within the glass box, where there is plenty of light and magnificent views for limitless inspiration!
